What to Look for in a Membrane Keyboard for Gaming

More and more manufacturers are developing serious, dedicated membrane gaming keyboards nowadays – but most are still less-than-ideal.  To make sure you’re getting a great one, focus on these factors:

Key Rollover

Whereas each key in a mechanical keyboard is it’s own input, a membrane keyboard behaves a bit differently.  Without getting into the messy details, it’s sufficient to say that advanced hardware/software must be integrated into membrane keyboards in order to prevent conflicts wherein certain keys cannot be used in conjunction with other or worse – certain combinations of keys can actually create an input that registers as another command entirely.  While this is perfectly acceptable for casual typing, it is an absolute no-go for gaming!

Rest assured that the first priority when creating this list was to ensure that each of these keyboards has a bare-minimum of 10-key rollover to ensure no-nonsense gaming!

Membrane keyboards are most commonly found in laptops or bundled with budget desktops.  As such, they are not typically built with longevity in mind and tend to fall apart under the demands of gaming.  Dedicated gaming boards are meant to be much more durable, and each board on this list receives high marks for build quality from verified buyers!

The trend you’re probably starting to see emerge here is that not much has been expected of membrane keyboards over the years, and as such they’ve not been good for much!  As the tech improves and as more gamers choose to opt for membranes, manufacturers are getting much better about bringing over great features from their mechanical sets.  Again, this consideration has been baked-into the preceding list and each of these boards is loaded with great features meant to cater to gamers!
